Organ transplant provides second chance for CLC Foundation Board Chair Chris Piazzi; June 12 Golf Classic to honor him

On Feb. 27, a double transplant saved the life of Chris Piazzi, chair of the College of Lake County Foundation Board and president of Mundelein Community Bank, a branch of Libertyville Bank and Trust Company.

A rare liver disease had slowly taken its toll on Piazzi. "Tests indicated that the only way I was going to survive was through a dual transplant of my liver and kidney," he said.

The CLC Foundation Board decided that the 2017 Scholarship Golf Classic June 12 should honor Piazzi and his service to the Foundation.

"Education comes in many forms. While the CLC Foundation Board raises money to support formal education to provide individuals improved opportunities in the workforce, I've benefitted from another type of education, the fragility of life and how blessed I am due to the kindness of another," Piazzi wrote in a letter to the Foundation board.

The outing takes place June 12 at the Ivanhoe Golf Club in Mundelein, which will host the Web.com Tour Rust-Oleum Championship June 5-11. Registration opens at 9 a.m., cart call is at 10:30 a.m. and a shotgun start is at 11 a.m. After the 18 hole "scramble" tournament, there will be cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and raffles, followed by an awards dinner.

In academic year 2015-16, the CLC Foundation connected 386 students to more promising futures with awards totaling $951,643. The event benefits the College of Lake County Foundation scholarships and grants fund.

Event tickets are $450 per person, $1,700 per foursome or $65 for the reception and dinner only. Please RSVP by May 26. Major supporting event sponsors are: R.J. Galla Insurance Company, Legat Architects, Cancer Treatment Centers of America® at Midwestern Regional Medical Center and First Bank of Highland Park.

Members of the Golf Classic steering committee are Dave Galla, committee chair, Grayslake; Pete Govorchin, Libertyville; Rob Hauswirth, Third Lake; Michael Isaacs, Deerfield; Steve Rankins, McHenry; and Bob Werdan, Libertyville.
