Street Theatre sets the scene for a summer of laughs

Whether you're on the stage or in the audience, Street Theatre is an ideal way to spend summer evenings.

Schaumburg Park District's Street Theatre is a paid summer traveling drama group for ages 16 to 25. Auditions are 1-4 p.m., May 7 and 13. Held outdoors at locations throughout the District, the free plays add a humorous twist to traditional tales, creating a fun atmosphere for all ages.

"Young actors will gain experience in front of live audiences," said Beth Waller, cultural arts supervisor. "Sometimes the audience participates and it gets even more exciting. This is a great opportunity for some free family entertainment."

Performances begin June 5 and run through July 20, with rehearsals beginning in May. This year's lineup of plays includes What Happened After Once Upon a Time, How the West was Worn and The Prince and the Pauper.

• Bock Park, 1223 W. Sharon Lane

• Town Square Amphitheatre, Schaumburg and Roselle roads

• Meineke Park, 220 E. Weathersfield Way
