Splash into swim lessons during National Water Safety Month

Prepare for a safe summer pool season with Schaumburg Park District.

May is National Water Safety Month, and spring is a great time to register for swim lessons at The Water Works, 505 N. Springinsguth Road.

The splashtastic indoor waterpark features three water slides, a rapid water channel, playground, diving pool, beach like entry pool and a whirlpool.

"Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1 to 5," said Heather Hagstrom, aquatics supervisor for the District. "The best prevention is swim lessons. Children will not only learn the fundamentals of swimming but also the safety behaviors to make sure they may still have fun and be safe."

The District offers a variety of swim lessons for ages 6 months to adult. Individual and group lessons are available.

Open swim hours in May at The Water Works include:

• 5:30-8 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays

• 4-8 p.m., Fridays

• Noon-5 p.m., Sundays
