Woodlands Academy Hosts Free Fine Arts Evening May 18

An evening to enjoy student drawing, painting, ceramics and photography exhibits, along with Spring Concert performances by the school's choirs and orchestra following the music department's outstanding achievements at the recent WorldStrides OnStage Heritage Festival in Boston, is in store at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart's annual Fine Arts Evening. This end-of-the-year celebration of the arts, which is open to the public free of charge, takes place Thursday, May 18, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the all-girls' college-prep high school, 760 E. Westleigh Road, Lake Forest.

The evening begins with a student art exhibition and reception at 6 p.m. and includes the Spring Concert at 7 p.m.

The concert, in the Chapel of the Sacred Heart, will feature the music performed by the Microscope and Kaleidoscope choirs and Symphonic Orchestra at the Boston competition April 21-23, 2017, plus more.

The honors won by Woodlands Academy musicians at the recent WorldStrides event include the coveted Sweepstakes/Total Program trophy based on the combined scores of all three of the school's participating groups. Gold awards were won by the student-led Microscope chamber choir and the orchestra, which also received the Outstanding Orchestral Group trophy. The Kaleidoscope choir won a Silver/First Place award (highest score in its event).

Woodlands Academy art students also have won some recent recognition. A photograph by freshman Vale Martin Del Campo Lizaola, of Mexico, was chosen to be included in the Student Perspectives exhibition May 4 -28 at Perspective Gallery in Evanston. Alyssa Rodriguez, a sophomore from Waukegan, received the Mayoral Award from the city of Lake Forest for her photograph displayed as part of the Emerging Artists exhibition at RE-Invent Gallery in Lake Forest.
