Hale students calculate tree benefits for Arbor Day

In celebration of Arbor Day, fifth and sixth grade students at Nathan Hale Elementary School hung tree tags provided by the Morton Arboretum around the campus. The tags included detailed information about each tree's specific benefits which the students had calculated. The students used arborist tools to measure the tree's diameter, determined the tree's species, then calculated the benefits of each tree using the National Tree Benefits Calculator website. The benefits they calculated included property value increase, energy savings, carbon reduction, and stormwater runoff reduction.
