Palatine's Women in Business presents offers two scholarship

The Women in Business Advisory Forum, a networking group of the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to be able to award two, $1,000 scholarships for the third consecutive year.

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide nonrenewable awards to be used for college tuition, fees, books or supplies. Two awards will be given: one to a student from Fremd High School and one to a student from Palatine High School.

To be eligible, female students must have a 3.0 GPA or better, with the intent of attending a two- or four-year college or university in fall 2017 to pursue a degree in a business-related field.

To apply, students can visit www.palatinechamber.com and select "WIBAF Scholarship," under the Chamber tab. Required materials include the completed 2017 scholarship application form, a noncertified copy of the student's transcript, and two letters of recommendation.

The application form includes questions about business coursework, clubs and activities, service and volunteer roles, and a choice of short answer essay questions.

Past recipients of the annual WIBAF Scholarship include Madeline Scharm (Fremd '16), Maddy Langell (Palatine '16), Nivedita Sriram (Fremd '15), and Kaitlin Conklin (Palatine '15).

Funds for the scholarship program are raised through raffles held at monthly networking luncheons and through the annual WIBAF Fashion Show, which raised almost $3,000 April 11.

For details about the scholarship program or to request an application form via email, contact Joan Scovic, WIBAF Scholarship Committee chairman, at (847) 496-6287 or jscovic@palatineparks.org.

The fee for WIBAF luncheon networking meetings is $15 per person. Preregistration is required and can be completed online each month at www.palatinechamber.com. Registration is requested no later than the Friday morning prior to the meeting. Registration after noon on Friday and up to Monday at noon will be $17 per person.
