The Kane County Audubon Society hosts this year's annual spring meeting, inviting Audubon members from all over Illinois attending, on Friday, May 19, to Sunday, May 21. You need not be a member to attend the "Spring Fling" but reservations are required.

On Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., there will be a buffet dinner and presentation by Rich and Marion Miller. Learn about their successful campaign to provide nesting and support for chimney swifts.

On Saturday, there will be day hikes, including Swainson's hawk site and Hampshire Forest Preserve; Burnidge Forest Preserve and yellow-headed blackbird; Fermilab and Elsen's Hill/West DuPage Woods Forest Preserve; and James "Pate" Philip State Park and Pratt's Wayne Woods Forest Preserve, as well as a Montrose Point/Field Museum bus trip.

It will be followed by a banquet and "Images from 38 Years as a Museum Naturalist" by Dave Willard, a past curator of the Bird Lab of the Field Museum. In his 38-year association with the museum, Willard traveled to all of the continents for bird research trips and tours. In this presentation, he will share some of his most memorable experiences.

On Sunday, they will offer morning trips and lunch at Hickory Knolls. The group will be divided between five locations along the Fox River, including Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, Fabyan Forest Preserve, LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, Quarry Park and Norris Woods Nature Preserve. Time permitting, birding is also very good at Hickory Knolls.

The meeting will be held at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, located in James O. Breen Community Park, Campton Hills and Peck roads in St. Charles, with entrances off both roads. The building is at the far west end of the parking lot.

There is a $15 general fee, with additional fees for meals. The deadline is Saturday, May 6.
