Hersey students perform High School Musical 1 & 2

Student actors at John Hersey High School love the High School Musical series so much, they're doubling the fun and putting on two different shows.

Attend the performances of High School Musical 1 and High School Musical 2 beginning this week at Hersey High School, 1900 E. Thomas Street in Arlington Heights.

The Theater Program at Hersey decided to perform both fun-filled, energetic Disney shows to see if a high school could do shows in rep, and see how audiences would respond to watching two completely different shows. Student performers have had to learn twice the music, choreography, and lines.

In High School Musical 1, Troy, a popular high school basketball star, and Gabriella, a shy newcomer, discover they share a secret passion for singing. When they sign up together to audition for the lead roles in the school musical, it threatens East High's rigid social order and sends their peers into an uproar.

In High School Musical 2, Troy, Gabriella and the rest of the East High Wildcats are getting ready for a fun summer vacation. All that changes when drama queen Sharpay Evans uses her dad's connections to get Troy a job at their ritzy country club and a chance at a scholarship.

High School Musical 1 will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29.

High School Musical 2 will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, April 28, and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29.

Tickets are $10 and can be ordered online at joann.langley@d214.org or 847 718 4882.
