Green Flag Sunday

We invite you to join in our celebration of becoming better stewards of the earth. Kay McKeen of SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education) will present an Earth Flag to St. Matthew United Church of Christ on Sunday, April 23 at 9:30am. SCARCE, a Glen Ellyn based educational non-profit whose purpose is to create sustainable communities, awards the Earth Flag to schools, businesses and community organizations who have met goals to be more eco-friendly.

Multiple projects, much time and many people helped St. Matthew earn the Earth Flag certification. The church staff participated in environmental awareness training, volunteers followed recommendations of a "green audit" to make the church more eco-friendly and the Sunday School children completed many activities with the most recent project being a monarch butterfly garden that they are planting this spring to help increase the butterfly population.

During the church service we'll receive our Earth Flag, view a video presentation about the St. Matthew efforts to care for the living environment and praise God for the wonders of Creation. We'll wear green to church that day and enjoy green treats for Coffee Hour like mint cookies, pistachios and key lime pie.
