Dipped, Decorated and Done!

What fun! 50 girls and boys from toddlers to teens celebrated Easter with a party on April 15 at the First United Methodist church in Des Plaines. There wasn't a moment to spare! This intergenerational community event had adults and kids working together to make colorful and sturdy paper baskets to collect eggs later while another group decorated cupcakes. Many of these delicious and colorful treats immediately vanished. Dipping wax (crayon) decorated eggs into bowls of colored liquid was an especially delightful experience for many children. Creative Easter lilies were made from cutout white hand tracings and green pipe cleaners. As children moved from activity to activity when done, the hard choice was whether to stay at the activity you were already enjoying or go on to another one that looked like so much fun to do too.

The event was free to everyone in the community. Many newcomers came to share in the day. Remember to mark your calendar for next year since this sure hit will be back for a replay next year.

The Education Ministry team had earlier filled hundreds of plastic eggs and hid them outside all around. Likewise, they helped inside at the activity tables.

Mike Murphy read the Easter story with the children gathered around. Karen Boesche, with Education Ministry Team, concluded the party with the quintessential egg hunt. It was a perfect day to hunt eggs on the lawn.
