Renz Center expands self-empowerment support program

Renz Addiction Counseling Center has expanded its SMART Recovery support program to include their St. Charles location.

An alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous, SMART Recovery is a self-management support program that is open to individuals coping with all types of addictive behaviors, including substance abuse, and focuses on building and maintaining motivation, coping with urges, managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and living a balanced life.

SMART Recovery is free. It meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays at Renz Center's Hanover Township Resource Center, 1535 Burgundy Parkway in Streamwood, and noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays at 409 Illinois Ave., St. Charles.

For current Renz Center clients and alumni, SMART Recovery is also held at the Center's Two American Way location in Elgin on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m.

SMART Recovery is facilitated by a Renz Center counselor, and is open to all individuals 18 years of age or older.

Renz Center provides a continuum of care dedicated to the prevention, intervention and treatment of addictive behaviors related to alcohol, drugs, and gambling. Services range from prevention programs for youth in the schools to outpatient treatment programs for adolescents and adults. Priority is given to pregnant women and women with dependent children. Offices are located in Elgin, St. Charles, and Streamwood.

Renz Addiction Counseling Center is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for its adult and adolescent outpatient treatment programs. The accreditation represents the highest level of recognition that can be given to an organization and shows Renz Center's commitment to quality services. Renz Center is a non-profit organization funded in part by the Federal Government, Fox Valley United Way, the Illinois Department of Human Services, Hanover Township, Geneva, and St. Charles 708 Mental Health Boards and other local community organizations.
