City of Highwood Announces $400,000+ Infrastructure Improvements

HIGHWOOD, IL (APRIL 2017) - The City of Highwood is excited to announce it will be investing $407,000 this year in infrastructure improvements to repair city sidewalks and manholes, as well as resurface alleyways and roads beginning this summer.

These infrastructure projects were made possible due to financial savings achieved from the closure of the fire department and associated agreement with Highland Park. This is more than 11 times the spending in 2014. The City also made significant investments in infrastructure in 2015 by issuing bonds and resurfacing Clay Avenue and Lakeview Avenue after the fire referendum passed.

Infrastructure capital improvements to be completed by the City this year include:

• Resurfacing four alleyways in Highwood

• Resurfacing Michigan Avenue and North Central Avenue

• Repairing manholes to prevent them from collapsing in the road

• Repairing every bad sidewalk in the community after walking all of them and completing an inventory last year

"Last year we spoke to many residents about the financial benefits of working together with Highland Park for fire and emergency services. This is the first year we are realizing these savings and are using them to invest back in our residential neighborhoods," explains Mayor Charles Pecaro. "Highwood is a beautiful community but, like any historic town, needs to repair old infrastructure. And, as the City completes these repairs and beautification projects, we encourage residents and property owners to continue to renew and invest in their own properties as well."
