Sign up now for Saturday's Lions Raceway Woods 5K Run/Walk

There's still time to sign up for the Raceway Woods 5K Run and Walk benefit at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Raceway Woods Forest Preserve in Carpentersville. The event is sponsored by the Dundee Township and Elgin Lions clubs. For details on registration, visit www.LionsRaceway5k.com.

Entry fee for the 5K is $30 by Thursday, April 20, or $35 on race day. Cost for the walk is $20.

Runners and walkers receive a T-shirt with the Lions Raceway Woods 5K logo.

Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, including a copy of the book "The Midwest Motorsport Legend: Meadowdale Raceways" by Philip Aleo.

All proceeds will benefit Dundee and Elgin Lions clubs. Participants are asked to donate used glasses or a nonperishable food item at the race.

The race will begin near the "Monza Wall" and follow the long straightaway north that race cars traveled when the location was a raceway in the 1950s-'60s. Most of the course is blacktop with some graveled areas near the end of the race. Two water stops will be located along the race. Bananas, bagels and water will be available near the finish line.

All awards will be presented at the post-race celebration at Bandito Barney's Beach Club. A free beverage will be included for runners that attend the party.
