See robotics at STEM Innovation Fair

An evening of hands-on activities showcasing robotics and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields will be from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the P.E. Center (Building 7) on the College of Lake County Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Visitors of all ages can discover the world of robotics with hands-on activities such as trying their hand at the controls and even creating a robot. In addition, they can watch robots in action made by local teams and learn how robotics technology is used. Laser technology also will be on display, with a laser light demonstration and a laser cutter making take-home souvenirs. Additionally, 3-D printer technology will be on display, creating printed souvenir items ranging from key chains to mini robots.

Attendees also can practice soldering LED light circuits. Other exhibits include digital media design, computer construction, electric bike conversions, hands on electronics, computer programming, and a variety of digital fabrication technologies including CNC milling and CNC routers.

Exhibitors include The Lego Group (maker of Legos), Elenco Electronics (maker of Snap Circuits), Barrington Area Library Makerlab and the Creatory (a nonprofit, Grayslake-based community innovation lab/workshop). Other exhibitors include Northern Illinois University's STEM Outreach program and the CLC Fab Lab, a student and community innovation laboratory and workshop.

Local robotics teams exhibiting include Warren Township and Highland Park High Schools. For those interested in pursuing a college degree or certificate, information on STEM career programs at CLC and NIU will be available.

Registration at www.clcillinois.edu/STEM is recommended. For more information, email Professor Rob Twardock at rtwardock@clcillinois.edu or contact the CLC Engineering, Math and Physical Sciences division at (847) 543-2903.
