Two people were taken to the hospital Friday after their vehicle was hit by a semitrailer truck in Carpentersville, authorities said.

The crash took place about 11:30 a.m. on Route 31 near Spring Point Drive, Carpentersville police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.

Police blocked traffic on the thoroughfare for roughly two hours until the wreckage was cleared, he said.

A semitrailer truck traveling south on Route 31 hit a Lexus sport-utility vehicle that was turning onto Route 31 from Spring Point Drive, he said.

The truck also knocked over a utility pole and hit three construction vehicles parked outside a nearby landscaping business, Kilbourne said.

The two injured, who were not identified, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, he said.

State police also are investigating the crash. The semi's driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs but could face traffic citations, Kilbourne said.
