Georgetown Elementary School
Town: Aurora
No. of subgroups for which it's held accountable: Four
Success story: Georgetown students pulled up their scores and met state-set standards this year after falling short in 2006. More than half of the school's disabled students met or exceeded state goals in reading, up from 33.3 percent last time.
How it got there: The school identified every student not meeting standards and provided them with individualized intervention programs. Staff monitored their progress regularly and teams of teachers met throughout the year to discuss how the interventions were working.
What it plans for next year: The school will continue to focus on meeting the needs of individual students.
Quote: "There was a huge effort on the part of the Georgetown staff. It was a collective effort of every teacher, every staff member at Georgetown School to make that happen for their students." -- Kathy Duncan, assistant superintendent for instructional services.
