A Huntley man injured in the same two-vehicle collision Tuesday that killed a 3-year-old Streamwood girl in DeKalb County has been upgraded to fair condition.
Henry C. Rosales, 44, of Huntley remained in Rockford Memorial Hospital Friday. He was transferred there after originally being taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb in critical condition Tuesday.
Alisha Kazmi, 3, of Streamwood died from head and neck injuries Wednesday, about 26 hours after the collision, according to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office. She too was initially taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital before being moved to Rockford Memorial Hospital.
The girl was in a 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by 25-year-old Ummul B. Kazmi of Streamwood, who was treated for minor injuries at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.
According to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, the elder Kazmi was driving west on Plank Road east of Lukens Road at 8:28 a.m. Tuesday when she became distracted by the girl in her vehicle and crossed over the marked center line, hitting the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker that Rosales was driving in the opposite direction.
The collision remains under investigation and charges are pending against the elder Kazmi, police said. Police have been looking for the driver of a dark SUV or pickup truck who may have witnessed the collision. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the collision to call (815) 895-2155.
Information available from the department did not describe the exact relationship between the woman and the girl.
