I wondered if anyone can explain to me the logic in their recommendations that women younger than 50 do not need routine screening mammography for breast cancer, and women ages 50 to 74 need a screening mammogram only every two years.

There's not enough evidence to encourage women older than 75 to get mammograms and there's not enough evidence to support teaching and encouraging breast self-exam? Why do we need the American Cancer Society and their recommendations, then? This is just an example of the rationing that is about to enter our lives once health care reform is passed. A panel will make decisions on what you need or do not need medically. It has become more important to our government to save money instead of lives.

How is this going to help those that need proper health care? Those with money will still be able to get the mammogram and make decisions on their own body. Those who need government-run health care will be at their mercy and will not get the mammogram because of the above "recommendations."
