Open Door Clinic and Elgin Community College present World AIDS Day 2009 with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, in the Jobe Lounge at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

The AIDS Quilt will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1 and 8 a.m. until the closing ceremony at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2.

The World AIDS Day Breakfast will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the Heritage Rooms at Elgin Community College. Tickets are $10. For tickets, call (847) 214-7370.

The keynote speaker will be Jeanne White-Ginder. Her son, Ryan, a teenager from Kokomo, Ind., lost his fight against HIV/AIDS on Palm Sunday, April 8, 1990. She continues to speak about Ryan and the Ryan White Treatment Modernization Act.

Open Door Clinic has provided more than $94,880 worth of free doctor visits, more than 9,900 hours of case management, 60 mental health and substance abuse therapy sessions, along with blood work and labs tests, medication and nursing care to more than 400 HIV/AIDS clients. So far this year, they have welcomed more than 100 new clients.

Besides medical care, psychiatry and substance abuse counseling, Open Door Clinic provides case management, prevention/education, support groups, sexually transmitted disease testing and free HIV testing in Kane, McHenry, Kendall, DeKalb, DuPage and Northwestern Cook counties.
