It's all about control through dependency. The government has us dependent on them for retirement and education. Housing is now being controlled by them through the bank takeovers. They will decide who gets the mortgages (they did such a great job the last go-round). Homebuilders will be subsidized to build "green" houses which will be coerced through the tax code to buy. Now health care looms on the horizon.

Through the tax code we will discouraged from autos and to use government (public) transportation. Food content will be encouraged/discouraged through various tax/subsidy schemes as the "obesity crisis" has to be dealt with.

Let's see; we need government for retirement, education, health care, transportation, food and shelter. Oh! I almost forgot, clothing. I understand China has a lot of Mao suits in a warehouse somewhere. Maybe our glorious Leader can work a deal for us.
