A 20-year-old Northbrook man was killed Sunday afternoon after being hit by a Seattle-bound Amtrak train in Deerfield, authorities said.

The unidentified man, who was trespassing on railroad property, was killed about a quarter-mile south of the Lake-Cook Road railroad station in Deerfield, said officials from the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled later today, officials said.

No one on the train was hurt in the accident at 2:45 p.m. Sunday. The train was held for roughly an hour while officials from the Deerfield Police Department and the Cook County medical examiner's office investigated the scene, authorities said.
