On Sunday, Nov. 22, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music Institute, with director David Anderson, presents 25 small ensembles in their first concert of the 2009-10 season.

Three free performances are scheduled at 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m. in the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. To learn more about EYSO, visit eyso.org or call (847) 841-7700.

"Playing chamber music teaches great musicianship," said David Anderson, director of the Chamber Music Institute Program.

"In a chamber music setting, each member of the ensemble is both soloist and team member at the same time. It teaches vital listening skills and provides invaluable ensemble and musicianship experience."

Pieces by the following composers will be heard: Dvorak, Handel, Hindemith, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Szervanszky Endre and many others.

The EYSO, an In-Residence Ensemble in the ECC Arts Center, is home to five orchestras with nearly 300 students from more than 65 communities. Founded in 1976, its mission is to create a community of young musicians, enriching their lives and the lives of their families, schools, communities and beyond, through the study and performance of excellent music.

This program is partially supported by grants from the Palmer Foundation, the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission, and the Illinois Arts Council.
