The McHenry County College Student Peace Action Network will host an informational seminar on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict titled "Can There be Peace in Palestine/Israel after so Much Bloodshed?" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in the college's conference center, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
The keynote speaker will be Ali Abunimah, co-founder and editor of the "Electronic Intifada," a popular Web site publishing news, commentary and analysis about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict from a Palestinian perspective. The son of Palestinians forced to leave their homes in 1948, he was born in the U.S. and grew up in Europe. He earned his bachelor's degree from Princeton University and his master's degree from the University of Chicago. His articles have appeared in major newspapers and publications around the world. The moderator will be Todd Culp, political science instructor at MCC. Abunimah will talk about the current situation in the region and discuss his book, "One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse," which highlights his claim that the solution lies in one democratic, multicultural state with equal rights for all.
The event is co-sponsored by Pax Christi and the McHenry County Peace Coalition. For information, call (815) 455-8772.
