Elk Grove High School will stage Tennessee Williams' classic play, "The Glass Menagerie," Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 18-21, at 7 p.m. in the school theater. The story retells the break-up of a family living in a tenement in 1930s St. Louis, through the son's recollection of events that happened ten years earlier. Tom Wingfield, a would-be poet played by senior Matt Vuchichevich, works in a shoe warehouse to help support the family, but longs to travel the world. His frail sister Laura (senior Meredith Starr) is a young crippled woman who loves to tend her collection of glass figurines, but is fearful of real-life encounters with people.

Their domineering single mother, Amanda (senior Meg Ryan), a former Southern debutante, despairs over her losses, the family's current poverty, and her children's future. She nags Tom into bringing home "a gentleman caller" (Jim, played by senior Patrick Loftus) for Laura, which turns out disastrously. Even after ten years, Tom is still haunted by the memories of his family, too fragile for life's harsh realities.

The director is Ryan Asmussen; assistant director/props is Stephen Colella; technical director, Brad Kahler; costumer/makeup coordinator, Kelly Bordes; and house manager, Susan Montemayor. Student directors are Erin Chaput, Kailey Hansen, and Lauren Nowak. Sara Hynes is the assistant student director.

General admission is $7, $6 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door, unless sold out. Call (847) 718-4553 for more information, or to order tickets.
