A 27-year-old Elgin woman is dead following an early morning accident in Streamwood, officials said.

Paris Means was riding in the front passenger seat of a friend's vehicle when it was struck head-on after it crossed the center line and into oncoming traffic at 5:46 a.m. Monday, said Deputy Chief Jim Gremo of the Streamwood Police Department.

The driver, 19-year-old Jasmine Freeman of Streamwood, was also injured in the accident at the corner of Irving Park Road and Vine Street, Gremo said.

She remains in stable condition at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, Gremo said. Gremo said the two were heading westbound on Irving Park Road when Freeman swerved across the yellow line and into oncoming traffic of the four-lane roadway.

The car was hit head on by two vehicles, spun, and was hit a third vehicle, Gremo said.

The two women were rushed to St. Alexius, where Means was pronounced dead, Gremo added.

The other three individuals involved in the crash were not injured and were released at the scene, he added.

Gremo said alcohol did not play a role in the crash and that both women were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

He added speed also did not play a role in the incident.

"Officers are still investigating to determine why Ms. Freeman crossed into the opposite lane," he said.

Irving Park Road was shut down in both directions for about 90 minutes while the incident was investigated and the accident was cleaned up.
