Two Aurora police officers suffered minor injuries late Wednesday when their squad cars went bump in the night.

City spokesman Dan Ferrelli said both officers were heading to an armed robbery call when they collided at 11:55 p.m. at Highland Avenue and Spruce Street.

Officer Alexandra Martyn, 26, was driving her fully illuminated marked squad car north on Highland Avenue toward Spruce Street, with her siren activated, just as officer Adam Webb, 32, was driving west on Spruce Street in an unmarked squad car, with his lights and siren on.

Ferrelli said the impact sent Martyn's squad into a utility pole in the parkway on the west side of Highland Avenue.

Both officers were taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center where Martyn was treated and released for injuries to her right hand and both knees. Webb was treated for back and neck pain and released.

Ferrelli said both vehicles had "extensive damage." An internal investigation will be initiated to determine if any policies or procedures were violated leading up to the crash.
