A misguided attempt to use a squeegee to rob an Elk Grove Village McDonald's last February earned a 22-year-old Hoffman Estates man a stint in jail.

Edward Hudson, of the 700 block of Bode Circle, got no cash in the robbery attempt but did get three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after he pleaded guilty in a Rolling Meadows courtroom Monday.

Prosecutors said Hudson covered a squeegee with a towel to make it look like a gun barrel, then pointed it at the drive-through attendant and demanded money. The attendant stepped away from the window and employees called police.

Hudson, who has served time for theft and burglary, drove away without so much as a sandwich. Police arrested him later in Hoffman Estates.
