Police continued to search Wednesday for a Carpentersville man charged in the Oct. 10 shooting death of 25-year-old Joseph L. Vonner.

Errick L. Brown, 39, of the 100 block of Amarillo Drive, has been missing since he was charged with two counts of murder three days after the fatal shooting.

Carpentersville police Cmdr. Tim Bosshart said authorities initially believed Brown could be hiding out with relatives in Chicago, but "that didn't pan out." Investigators have no other leads, he said.

Brown is accused of shooting Vonner in the head around 12:30 a.m. after an argument in Brown's home, according to court documents.

A witness told police Brown began shooting inside the residence and continued as Vonner went into his front yard, collapsed and died.

Anywhere from two to six were fired before Brown fled in a red van, police said in an affidavit for a search warrant. One shell casing was recovered in the home, the affidavit states.

Police have said Vonner, a father of five with a last known address in Elgin, had been staying at Brown's address for a short time before the shooting, which police do not consider gang-related.

Court records show Brown has prior convictions in Kane County for a child restraint violation and various traffic offenses.

Police say Brown is potentially armed and dangerous. He's described as black, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 190 pounds.
