Your "Guest View" column featured a political analysis by Paul Green, a professor of policy studies at Roosevelt University. He thinks that the GOP in Illinois should stop its war over ideological purity and compromise on candidates who can win.

'Compromise' means electing Republicans who work on the Democratic agenda of "change we can believe in." It means legalized abortion, homosexual unions, pornography, gun confiscation, race-hustling, trillion-dollar deficits, bank-bailouts, outrageous taxation, illegal immigration, military impotence and socialized medicine.

What he fails to tell us is that Illinois Republicans did that with Judy Baar Topinka's run for Governor. Yet she received fewer votes than did the uncompromising conservative, black guy from Maryland, Alan Keyes, when he ran for the Senate. The Republicans also did that with George Ryan and Scott Fawell, certified compromise "moderates" whom a federal court convicted of felonies.

A recent survey has shown that most people consider themselves politically conservative. So, it makes no sense for Republicans to compromise on their conservative platform to win. Republicans lose because they do not have what Democrats have. For example, Republicans do not have anything like the criminal operation known as ACORN as part of their operation.

ACORN is a Saul Alinsky-inspired group. Alinsky, a Marxist-socialist, practically invented community organizing. Social agitation, confrontation and personal attacks (not to mention vote fraud) characterize Alinsky-style political organizing.

As Alinsky wrote, "Ethics are determined by whether one is losing or winning." He also wrote, "He who fears corruption, fears life." He promoted the "politics of personal destruction." He also said: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon," and "pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it."

The Republican Party has to stand for principle, not compromise (When did Democrats ever compromise?). It has to put its money when its heart is.
