Art exhibit is for the birds

Thirty drawings and prints of birds by DeKalb artist Peter Olson are currently on display in the "... of a Feather" art exhibition at Aurora University. The exhibit is open to the public and runs through Friday, Oct. 30.

What a workout!

Certified Zumba fitness instructor Angela Weece will teach participants how to move to the beat of Latin and international dance music for an aerobic workout. Program is designed for teens, adults and families with children.

Double your festival fun

Visitors to downtown Mount Prospect can get a double dose of festival fun on Saturday, Oct. 17, during the Fall Festival and Octoberfest celebrations. Fall Festival runs from 1 to 4 p.m. with pumpkin painting, scarecrow contest, hayrides, games and crafts. Trick-or-Treat through town. Octoberfest follows, running from 4 to 10 p.m. and featuring live entertainment, including a German band, food and dancing.

Mount Prospect Fall Festival/Octoberfest events run from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, on Emerson Street and Busse Avenue, in downtown Mount Prospect. Free admission. Visit mpdma.org.

Long Grove's Oktoberfest

Long Grove celebrates German heritage at its annual Oktoberfest featuring dancing, beer and brats. Other events include carriage rides, pumpkin decorating and children's activities.

Railroad collectibles

See, buy and sell items used by railroads at the 17th annual Chicago Railroadiana Show and Sale. Items include steam and diesel engine parts, switch keys, locks, lanterns, china and silverware from dining cars, timetables and maps, plus books, photos and videos on railroad topics.

Hopi Art and Stories

Noted Hopi artist, educator and poet Ramson Lomatewama presents a program on Hopi Art and Stories at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian. Lomatewama's books of poetry include "Silent Winds," "Ascending the Reed" and "Drifting Through Ancestor Dreams."

An evening of oboe

Oboist Nancy Ambrose King performs classical works by composers, including J.S. Bach and Henri Dutilleux, in Northwestern University's Lutkin Hall. Ambrose King is the president of the International Double Reed Society and has performed as a soloist in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

'Love Song'
