Kildeer Police Officer Michael Hoover will receive a big-thank you for his military service in Afghanistan during a Sunday morning event at village hall.

Hoover returned to work in Kildeer about a week ago after serving a year in Afghanistan for the Army National Guard. Village Administrator Michael Talbett said Sunday's event will be the first of its kind in Kildeer.

Talbett said the festivities begin at 10 a.m. at village hall, 21911 Quentin Road. He said the Lake Zurich High School band will play, with 12-year-old Paige Savarese singing the national anthem.

Hoover will make his way to village hall escorted by police from Kildeer, Lake County, Palatine, Wauconda and Lake Zurich. Other organizations slated to assist in the escort include the Lake Zurich and Long Grove fire departments and Warrior Watch.

Talbett said at least 1,000 cookies will be donated by a Kildeer resident for the village hall celebration, with coffee and other treats coming from local businesses.

"A lot of people came together to make this happen," Talbett said.

Following the village hall ceremony, a caravan will proceed to Lake Zurich American Legion Post 964 for a luncheon of hot dogs and hamburgers. The post is at 51 Lions Drive in downtown Lake Zurich.
