Arlington Heights police are searching for a man who robbed a Mobil gas station at gunpoint late Thursday night.

Police said the offender, described as a black male, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, entered the Mobil at 1880 S. Arlington Heights Road at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday and pointed a handgun at the clerk.

Police said the robber was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and had a black cloth covering his face and sunglasses.

After demanding and getting an undisclosed amount of money from the clerk, he fled the store on foot, heading westbound and carrying a paper bag that contained the money and the handgun.

Police searched the area to no avail. Dogs initially picked up the offender tracks, but lost the scent.

Anyone with information about this incident in Arlington Heights should contact the Arlington Heights Crime Stoppers at (847) 590-STOP. Callers are guaranteed anonymity and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
