About a dozen middle schoolers from Buffalo Grove and Long Grove suffered minor injuries in a chain-reaction crash involving three school buses Friday afternoon in Buffalo Grove.
Buffalo Grove police Sgt. Mike Millett said the buses were taking about 100 children home from Twin Groves Middle School on the village's north side. Twin Groves is in Kildeer Countryside Elementary District 96.
Millett said the three buses were traveling in a line south on Buffalo Grove Road near Deerfield Road when the chain-reaction collision occurred about 2:50 p.m.
He said possibly one of the drivers and roughly 12 students suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
"We just don't know how it happened," Millett said. "It's under investigation."
Authorities closed the area around Buffalo Grove and Deerfield roads for 30 minutes after the incident. Millett said many parents arrived at the crash site because their children alerted them electronically about the crash.
