Home sales jump in suburbs

DOWNERS GROVE - Sales of single-family detached homes in the South and West suburbs went up 8.6 percent in August, compared with the same period a year ago, according to statistics released by the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.

The group measured sales on homes in about 120 South and West Suburbs through information from Midwest Real Estate Data LLC. Standouts in DuPage County included Addison with 26 homes sold, compared to 8 last year, a 225 percent increase; Downers Grove with 45 homes sold, compared to 33 last year, or a 36 percent increase; Glendale Heights with 27 homes sold, compared to 10 last year or a 170 percent increase; Lombard with 44 homes sold, compared to 22 last year, or a 100 percent increase; and Villa Park with 22 homes sold, compared to 14 last year, or a 57 percent increase.
