A Chicago teen charged in a sexual assault at Mooseheart is expected to be released from the county jail after his bond was greatly reduced Wednesday.
Kane County Judge Thomas Mueller cut bond from $500,000 to $95,000 for the suspect, Abraham Mazon, 17, who has been removed from the school near Batavia.
The judge's ruling was in response to a defense motion arguing Mazon has no prior criminal history and would reside with his family in Chicago while awaiting trial. He must post $9,500 to be released from jail.
Mazon was arrested Aug. 11 on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He is accused of molesting or assaulting two classmates younger than 13 earlier this year, according to court records.
Full details of the case have not been released, but school officials say Mazon was removed from the school as soon as the allegations were made.
If convicted of the most serious charge, a Class X felony, Mazon could face up to 30 years in prison. His next court date is Oct. 1.
Mooseheart Child City and School is a 1,000-acre residential and educational facility that has served more than 11,000 children since its founding in 1913 by the fraternal Moose organization, according to its Web site.
