A two vehicle crash in Villa Park killed one person and sent three more to area hospitals Wednesday.

The crash occurred at about 3:37 p.m. on southbound Route 83 between Washington Street and Riverside Drive when an SUV and a mini van collided, according to fire Lt. Lou Vicelli.

A 63-year-old woman from Carol Stream was riding in the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of that vehicle, a 65-year-old male from Carol Stream, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in serious condition, Vicelli said.

Two 19-year-old men from Addison were in the van that rolled over in the crash. Rescue workers spent about 35 minutes extricating the two from the vehicle.

The driver was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in serious condition and the passenger was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The four were the only people in the vehicles.

All were wearing seat belts, according to Vicelli.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash that closed southbound lanes of Route 83 for four hours.

Villa Park firefighters had assistance on scene from Oakbrook Terrace, York Center, Oak Brook, Elmhurst and Lombard and in the station from Downers Grove and Lombard.
