Part of Fox River Trail closed

A section of the Fox River Trail in Carpentersville will be closed from Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 10 for bridge removal. The trail will be closed from the entry at Fox River Trails Forest Preserve to Angelina Place. No alternate route is available due to the lack of shoulder space along Williams Road and the level of traffic. Signs will be posted and regular users are reminded of the possibility of construction traffic and workers on the trail during this time.

Huntley OKs transit study

The Huntley village board recently approved a study of possible sites for a future Metra station. Although a steering committee last year recommended Coyne Station Road as the site of a new station on the Milwaukee District West Line, the study retains both Coyne Station Road and Kreutzer Road as possible locations. "The village wanted to keep both those options open," Village Manager Dave Johnson said. Village officials envision the Coyne Station site as the center of a transit-oriented development, while the Kreutzer Road location would be a park-and-ride station. Officials are waiting for Metra to complete a study on the feasibility of the sites.

Memorial for Laube

Fox River Grove officials have set 8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 11, as the day they will recognize former Village President Kay Laube, who died in office last summer at the age of 61. Officials are holding a memorial for Laube inside Picnic Memorial Park, where there is a bench, granite boulder and plaque and tree in her honor. Laube's husband, Ed, and their son, Edmund, are expected to attend. For details, call the village at (847) 639-3170.
