Local voters hate Stroger tax

In case it wasn't clear, now it's official: northwest suburban voters don't like Cook County's 2008 sales tax increase.

Across Barrington, Elk Grove, Hanover, Maine, Palatine, Schaumburg and Wheeling townships, voters took their anger to the ballot box, overwhelmingly saying they want the tax to end. Opposition topped 90 percent in most townships.

While the vote may be clear, it doesn't do anything other than express suburban fury over the 1 percentage point increase county board President Todd Stroger passed in 2008.

Area lawmakers failed recently to roll back the tax and force a binding public vote.
