Police say a Palatine man has admitted to stabbing his wife's former boyfriend during a child visitation exchange.
Stephan M. Erdelyi, 23, of the 200 block of Jennifer Lane, was charged with aggravated battery. He's scheduled to appear at a bond hearing Friday in Rolling Meadows.
Shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday, the 25-year-old victim went to a parking lot on the 500 block of North Hicks Road to pick up his 4-year-old daughter. The girl was in the custody of her mother, who's now married to Erdelyi.
Erdelyi confronted the victim during the custody exchange and stabbed him twice, police said. The victim's sister, who was with the victim at the time, didn't know how to get to the hospital, so Erdelyi drove him.
The victim is being treated at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights for injuries police don't believe are life-threatening.
Police responded to the hospital and located Erdelyi, who agreed to accompany them to the police station. He then corroborated the victim's sister's statement and admitted to confronting and stabbing the victim, police said.
