Local network TV affiliates - WBBM Channel 2, WMAQ Channel 5, WLS Channel 7, WGN Channel 9 and WFLD Channel 32 - figure to pound inauguration coverage on their morning newscasts Tuesday before turning things over to their respective networks in time for the inauguration at 10 a.m. Here's a rundown of each station's coverage.
WBBM Channel 2: CBS' daytime coverage stretches from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The network had originally planned to end it earlier, but its affiliates said they'd prefer more from Washington than the usual daytime talk shows. CBS' Katie Couric will anchor an 8 p.m. special on Obama's journey to the White House, then do a live Webcast reviewing the day's events on CBSNews.com and CNET.com.
WMAQ Channel 5: Brian Williams will anchor the daytime coverage for NBC from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Channel 5 and a live, one-hour special at 9 p.m. that visits several inaugural balls.
WLS Channel 7: Besides the daytime ceremonies from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. anchored by Charles Gibson, ABC 7 will devote its entire prime-time lineup for the first time to the inauguration. From 7 to 9 p.m., ABC will be on site at the "Neighborhood Inaugural Ball," covering musical performances and the new president and first lady's first dance of the night. At 9 p.m., ABC will track the other inaugural balls and report on the day's special significance for black Americans.
WGN Channel 9: Because it doesn't have a network news affiliate on the CW, Channel 9 will be going it alone with an on-site election team headed by anchors Mark Suppelsa and Micah Materre. Coverage will run from 9 - 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
WTTW Channel 11: Jim Lehrer will cover the inauguration from 10 a.m. to noon, with columnists David Brooks and Mark Shields among his panelists.
WFLD Channel 32: Channel 32 will turn inauguration coverage over to the Fox News Channel at 10 a.m., then cover the 1:30 p.m. parade through its WTTG-TV sibling in Washington, D.C.
Cable: Major news networks - CNN, MSNBC and FNC - will offer nonstop coverage. For those who want a realistic sense of being there, C-SPAN'S coverage marks major events with no narration.
