White Sox's Moncada sits outs series opener vs. Tampa Bay

Yoan Moncada was not in the White Sox's starting lineup against Tampa Bay Monday night due to illness.

"He's got a lot of discomfort," manager Tony La Russa said. "Fighting a cold and congestion. He's just not available. Hopefully, he's got the thing that's bugged a lot of guys and if it comes quickly it goes quickly."

Leury Garcia was originally scheduled to get the day off, but he filled in for Moncada at third base. He was batting third in the Sox's early lineup and later shifted to the No. 8 spot.

"I wasn't playing (Garcia) because I thought he could use the day off," La Russa said. "He's been playing at a high level, he's been in the outfield and you move him to the infield. Those are difficult transitions but he's such a strong guy mentally.

"I just have to be careful with him because we're putting a lot on him now without (second baseman) Nick (Madrigal) there and center field and all the other stuff we're asking him to do."
