Power play continues to be Blackhawks' strength

Apparently, there's just no stopping the Blackhawks' power play, which has scored in all six games thus far.

It's the longest streak to begin a season since 1990-91, when they set a franchise record of 11 straight.

The Hawks were 1-for-2 during their 6-2 victory over Detroit on Sunday at the United Center and are 8-for-19 overall. The man-advantage tally against the Red Wings came when Pius Suter scored at 9:44 of the first period to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

"We're being cleaner with the puck," said coach Jeremy Colliton. "All four guys (are) an option, we can break pressure and we've got two different ways to score as far as how the units are comprised. ...

"We're (also) recovering a lot more pucks in the offensive zone ... and that helps you to create more."

The other power-play goals have come from Alex DeBrincat (2), Dominik Kubalik (2), Patrick Kane, Dylan Strome and Andrew Shaw.

Lankinen strong again:

Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves in backstopping the Hawks to their victory over the Red Wings on Sunday. Lankinen stopped 55 of 58 shots in the two-game sweep of Detroit.

"You can tell ... he wants to be the one standing there behind us," said defenseman Connor Murphy, whose second-period goal gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead. "There were times in the first (period) where we were playing well, but we gave up a couple Grade A chances in the slot that he seemed to just shoulder off.

"That reminds you of when we had Crow (Corey Crawford). He seemed to do the same thing. ... You see the replay and see how big of a chance it really was. Happy for him that he's continued to grow this way."

Toews update:

Jeremy Colliton wasn't able to provide an update on how Jonathan Toews is doing. The Blackhawks' captain remains out with an undisclosed illness.

"No change," Colliton said. "I know the medical team, they're obviously in touch with him. Of course we're offering our support and we (are) hoping things improve. But coaching staff's focused on the team we have right now."

Soderberg plays:

Carl Soderberg made his Blackhawks debut Sunday. The veteran centered Andrew Shaw and Mattias Janmark. He also helped on the penalty kill where he stole a puck that led to a clear on the Red Wings' first power play.

Soderberg saw 13:48 of ice time, 3:36 of which came on the PK, and won 4 of 9 faceoffs.

"He was solid," said coach Jeremy Colliton.

Slap shots:

Patrick Kane extended his point streak to five games with 2 assists Sunday. ... Connor Murphy had a goal, an assist and was plus-4. ... Led by Pius Suter (5), the Hawks finished with 35 shots on goal. Only Carl Soderberg and Dylan Strome were shut out in this area.
