Friday's Sox-Cardinals game postponed; doubleheader Saturday

The White Sox are going to be off Friday for the second straight day.

They took a break on Thursday, when the Sox were initially scheduled to play the Cardinals in the "Field of Dreams" game at Dyersville, Iowa.

That was postponed due to scheduling logistics caused by COVID-19.

The revised schedule had the White Sox and St. Louis playing a three-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field starting Friday, but the opening game has been postponed.

The Sox and Cardinals are now going to play a straight doubleheader Saturday to make up Friday's game. First pitch is 1:10 p.m. and each game is set for 7 innings.

St. Louis has been dealing with a coronavirus outbreak that currently numbers 17 positive tests.

The Cardinals are 2-3 and haven't played a game since July 29.

Assuming they are healthy enough to play a pair of games against the White Sox Saturday and wrap up the series Sunday afternoon, the Cardinals will remain in Chicago and play the Cubs at Wrigley Field Monday-Wednesday.

As of now, St. Louis and the Cubs are scheduled to play 7-inning doubleheaders Monday and Wednesday.

Before the Sox completed a three-game series Wednesday at Detroit, manager Rick Renteria was asked about the uncertainties surrounding this weekend's series against St. Louis.

"Really, nobody knows right?" Renteria said. "They've been down for a while. We've yet to receive, we don't know who's on their staff in terms of players. We have to navigate and keep it fluid till we have a better understanding."
