Girls volleyball: Libertyville, Stevenson improve to 3-0 in NSC

Libertyville's girls volleyball team shrugged off a slow start against host Lake Zurich to win 25-10, 25-11 in North Suburban Conference action Wednesday night.

Peyton O'Brien had 13 assists, 6 blocks and 4 kills for the Wildcats (17-6, 3-0), who trailed 5-1 in the first set. They roared back to take an 11-6 lead and never looked back. Kellie Hopper and Ella Schaffnit each had 5 kills and 7 and 6 digs, respectively. Libertyville's other contributors included Alannah Howell (9 digs), Cassidy Jones (3 kills, 4 blocks) and Kiera Kasten (2 kills, 3 blocks).

Lake Zurich (6-17, 1-3) received 6 kills from Chelsea Williams and four from Jarynn Hartman, while Leah Salit dished out 12 assists. Sophia Arias served 2 aces for the Bears.

Stevenson d. Mundelein: Emerson Kouri collected 6 aces and 9 digs, Amanda Holsen had 8 kills and 10 digs, and the host Patriots won 25-9, 25-9 in North Suburban Conference action.

Stevenson (13-6, 3-0) also got 5 kills and 2 aces from Lily Cozzi, while Grace Tully had 11 assists.

Mundelein (3-11, 2-2) received 2 kills apiece from Willow Ottoman and Brianna Martin, while Faith Krabbe had 2 blocks and 4 assists (32-of-34 setting).

Lakes d. Marian Central: Ashley Smith and Kelli Rettig had 7 and 6 kills, respectively, for the host Eagles, who won the nonconference match 25-18, 25-18.

Lakes (12-7 overall) also got 19 assists and 3 kills from Devinn Bell. Allison Stover and Tea Leonora each served 3 aces. Megan Maloney and Emma Martinez tallied 4 kills apiece, and Molly Reuland had three.
