Cougars ride Deuces to series win

The Kane County Cougars (53-42, 18-8) blanked the Bowling Green Hot Rods (56-40, 17-9) and used three two-run rallies to win 6-0 on Thursday night at Northwestern Medicine Field in front of 8,973 fans.

The Cougars' first two-run rally was in the opening inning. Geraldo Perdomo and Alek Thomas reached at the top of the order to set up Joey Rose for an RBI double to make it 1-0. Thomas later scored on a passed ball.

The second two-run inning was the fifth. Perdomo singled in a run to make it 3-0 and Alek Thomas collected a run driven in with a fielder's choice.

The seventh inning featured the third act of offense for the Cougars. Tra Holmes walked and scored on a throwing error by Bowling Green third baseman Ford Proctor. Perdomo reached second base on Proctor's throwing error. A pair of passed balls allowed him to reach third and eventually home for the sixth run.

Ryan Weiss (5-5) earned the win with five innings of shutout ball with seven strikeouts and two walks. Kenny Hernandez came on to throw 3+ innings of shutout ball. Jose Cuas retired the final three batters of the night. Miller Hogan (1-3) suffered the loss for Bowling Green. He allowed three runs over 3+ innings.

The Cougars look for the three-game sweep against Bowling Green in the series finale on Friday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
