Baseball: Grayslake Central pitchers throw combined no-hitter

Four Grayslake Central pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter, as the Rams defeated Niles West 3-0 in a nonconference game Monday, improving their record to 24-7.

Coby Moe, Eric Sturm and Tyler Marson each tossed 2 innings, and Sean Gniadek preserved the no-hitter by getting a game-ending double play in the top of the seventh inning. Combined, Rams pitchers struck out six in the game.

Sophomore Nate Miesikowski broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when he launched a 2-run homer, plating Antonio Crews, who doubled earlier in the game. One inning later, Marcus Maristela doubled home Nic Presutti for the Rams' third run.

Wilmot 6, Lakes 3: Jason Volple was 2-for-3, and Ethan Mackey went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Eagles in the nonconference game.

Antioch 9, Barrington 2: Sophomore Aidan Trusky pitched 2-hit ball over 4⅔ shutout innings, as the Sequoits won the nonconference game.

Offensively for Antioch, Austin Andrews was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Logan Delgado singled and drove in 2 runs, and Sean Weiser doubled.

St. Viator 3, Warren 2: Nick Surdo hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Lions the nonconference win.

Mikey Kocen and Ryan DeVries both went 2-for-4 for Warren (30-4), and Brian Rapanan had a double.

Mundelein 5, New Trier 2: At Duke Childs Field, Jared Dorfman was 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 stolen bases for the Mustangs in the nonconference game, and Andrew Schroeder contributed a double and 2 stolen bases.

Grant 11, Deerfield 3: Mikal Ashley hit a 3-run homer, his fifth of the season, and the Bulldogs won the nonconference game.

Carlos Martinez was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Grant (25-6). Winning pitcher Aaron Vertuno (2-0) allowed 1 earned run over 3 innings, and Mason Sekulich struck out a pair in 2 innings.

Richmond-Burton 7, Wauconda 6: The Bulldogs fell to 13-15 with the nonconference loss, despite 2 hits apiece from Marcus Keller, Marcus Sperling and Drew Coe.
