Baseball: Batavia rallies past Waubonsie Valley

Batavia senior Cole Nelson drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-out, sixth-inning double in a 4-2 nonconference home win over Waubonsie Valley Friday.

Senior Ryan Jerger threw 2 scoreless innings to earn the win in relief of starter Marko Yager (3 IP, earned run, 5 hits, 3 BB, 3 K) and Dylan Schick (2 IP, 3 K).

Nelson went 2-for-3 with a walk and Justin Major (2-for-2) started the winning rally when he was hit by a one-out pitch.

Aurora Christian 12, Elmwood Park 3: The Eagles amassed 14 hits, 7 for extra bases, and cruised in a Metro Suburban crossover. Jake Kuntzendorf (RBI) and Hunter Thompson (2 RBI) each doubled twice and Sam Tickel went 3-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI. Winning pitcher Nick Ports allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, struck out 6 and walked 3 for Aurora Christian (7-0-1).

Marengo 6, Burlington Central 6: A 6-run fourth-inning helped Marengo (2-6, 1-2) salvage the finale of a 3-game Kishwaukee River Conference series. Andrew Knowlton took the loss for the Rockets, though 4 of the 7 runs charged to him were unearned due to a pair of errors. Cody Carlson doubled and drove in 2 runs for Central (3-5, 2-1).

Bartlett 4, Wheaton North 4: The Hawks and Falcons locked talons until darkness halted this nonconference matchup after nine innings. Bartlett's 10 hits doubled the total for Wheaton North (4-3-1). Blake Olver finished 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI, Michael Vaca (RBI) went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run and Matt Angelone, Sam Mallinas and Kevin Vesta each doubled for Bartlett (4-0-1).

Huntley 10, Dundee-Crown 0: Kyle Maurer held the visiting Chargers scoreless on 3 hits and the Red Raiders scored 5 runs in the fifth inning to complete a 3-game Fox Valley Conference sweep. Maurer (1-0) struck out 10 and walked a pair while lowering his ERA to 0.44 in 16 innings. Jackson Broom doubled, drove in 2 runs and scored twice, and Zach Model and Dylan Janke each drove in a pair for Huntley (9-2, 3-0). Nick Gregory took the loss for Dundee-Crown (2-7).

Barrington 12, Jacobs 4: Host Barrington outhit the Golden Eagles 11-2 to win in nonconference play. Hayden Kraus homered, doubled and drove in 3 to lead the Broncos (9-2). Four errors led to 6 unearned runs against four Jacobs pitchers. Bryan Belo (double) and Dan Klein had the only hits for Jacobs (4-5).

Kaneland 2, St. Charles North 1: Nik Panico and Angel Acevedo combined to hold the North Stars to 1 hit to give Kaneland a nonconference victory.

Panico pitched the first five innings and had 7 strikeouts against just 2 walks and 1 hit. Acevedo struck out five of the six batters he faced in a perfect two innings of relief.

The Knights scored both of their runs in the sixth, both on walks with the bases loaded.
