Girls lacrosse: Naperville North places fourth; Hinsdale Central wins championship

Before losing to Hinsdale Central on Thursday, Loyola's girls lacrosse team hadn't lost to a team from Illinois in more than a decade.

Naperville North was hoping to make it two in a row, and for a half Saturday, the Huskies gave the Ramblers plenty to think about in the girls third-place game.

Loyola won 17-6 at Hinsdale Central.

Naperville North (14-7) went into halftime down just 6-4 behind a pair of penalty-shot goals from senior attack Lauren Platou and a sweet groundball by freshman midfielder Kate Burritt just past Loyola senior goalie Sabrina Rice, who promptly smacked her stick down in disgust.

The second half didn't really go the Huskies' way, though. Loyola scored 8 straight goals coming out of halftime. But forgetting that for a moment, the die has been cast for the future, according to junior attack Audrey Johnson.

"We're losing a lot of seniors and they were a bulk of our team and it was obvious that in some games they were the highlight," Johnson said. "So losing them will be rough, but it's exciting to see what we will do next year."

Platou and Burritt each had a pair of goals and Johnson and senior Cristin Culbertson each added a tally.

Hinsdale Central claimed the state championship with a 13-3 victory against New Trier. Kristiana Strtak led the way with 5 goals, and Jessica Joy scored four times. Red Devils goaltender Kelsie Chisholm made 4 saves.
