Baseball: Huntley, Kaneland nab regional titles

Nick Laxner threw six innings of 2-hit baseball Saturday to lead Huntley to an 8-0 win over Harlem and the championship of the Class 4A Belvidere North regional.

Laxner struck out six and walked one as the Red Raiders (29-6) advanced to the McHenry sectional, where they will play the host Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Kamrin Hoffmann (2 hits), Hunter Rumachik (2 hits, RBI) and Zach Model (2B, 2 RBI) led Huntley's offense in Saturday's win.

Kaneland 8, ACC 4: Angel Acevedo had 2 hits including a grand slam home run and 5 RBI to lead the Knights (21-8) to the Class 3A Kaneland regional title. Luke Gomes added 3 hits for Kaneland while Nik Panico had 2 hits and Zach Farris a solo home run. Alex Buchannan threw six innings of relief, allowing 6 hits, 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts and a walk to earn the win. The Knights (21-8) will play Burlington Central at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Sterling sectional. Hunter Darnell had 2 hits and an RBI, Alex Rakas a double, home run and 2 RBI and Jeff Albert a double for Aurora Central, which finished the season 19-15.
