Softball: Huntley claims 4th straight regional title

Autumn Kasal's 3-run home run in the sixth inning ended Friday's Class 4A Hononegah softball regional championship game on the slaughter rule as Huntley won its fourth straight regional title, beating the host Indians 12-1.

Huntley (31-5) will return to its home field for sectional play. The Red Raiders take on fellow Fox Valley Conference foe McHenry in Wednesday's 4:30 p.m. semifinal. McHenry (14-16) downed Grant 10-1 Friday to win the Grant regional.

In Friday's win, Tiffany Giese ran her record to 23-2 for Huntley, going 4 innings and allowing 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk. She also had 3 hits and an RBI.

Sofia Tenuta hit 2 homers and had 3 RBI for the Raiders while Teagan O'Rilley added a home run and 2 RBI, Mallory Reicher 2 hits and an RBI and Kasal 3 hits.

Harlem 6, Hampshire 4: Morgan Haefling had 3 hits including 2 doubles and an RBI and Miki Snider added a 2-run homer for Hampshire (15-13) in the championship game of the Class 4A Harlem regional. Delaney Rummell added a double for the Whip-Purs and Sarah Bowen had 2 hits. Harlem (27-6) will face the winner of Saturday's Jacobs regional title game between Dundee-Crown and Barrington in Tuesday's Huntley sectional semifinal.
